Branding | Skills Challenge

Your challenge is to rebrand PennWest University(Umbrella Brand). The controversy has been well-documented and this is not meant to devolve into a matter of complaints, but rather of solutions.

Here’s the catch: you will work in groups of 3–4 (of my choosing) and have 1 hour to research, ideate, and finesse. The smart move is to play to each other’s strengths. Maybe someone is great at gathering inspiration and ideas, maybe someone is great at typography and color, maybe someone has exemplary Illustrator skills. Divvy up responsibility and budget your time wisely.

Remember, this is for PennWest as a whole and not any individual school. So, you have to think on a more macro scale. This University covers, quite literally, western Pennsylvania so make sure your concept reflects that.

My first suggestion: Do a mind map!

My second suggestion: Do some university branding visual research.

Type, color, structure, and aesthetic are entirely up to you. That said, you must keep the audience, current students, prospective students, administration, and surrounding economy in mind. How will this rebrand affect academics as well as athletics?

I will notify each team when there is 15 minutes left. Once the hour is up, we will return to the studio and present and reflect on what your team came up with.

IMPORTANT: Your deliverables will be a replacement version for each of the logos below.
